Ireland

Beara V - Dursey Island

Beara Peninsula was our favorite part of Ireland.
Dursey Island, at the western tip, was probably our favorite part of the peninsula.
We took "Ireland's Only Cable Car," which connects the island to the mainland (July 23).

We took "Ireland's Only Cable Car," which connects the island to the mainland (July 23).
The island is mostly abandoned. We left the few tourists behind by walking 3 miles from the cable car dock towards the end of the island, and saw only 2 local people the whole time.

A sign points the way to the lookout tower that was our destination.

Kristen and the view of the mainland.
We were almost to the tower at this point, and very cold from the wind.

There were few people on this island, but plenty of sheep (and some cows).
These sheep were at the top of the hill with the tower.

The tower we arrived at wasn't particularly exciting, but the hike was amazing.
We had to hurry back to catch the last cable car run of the day.
